Deaths have a delay from when the cases are initially discovered. As such, democrat counties will outnumber republican in deaths for the near future at the very least. Additionally, some new treatments for Coronavirus have been developed, and the mortality rate has decreased slightly since the beginning of the outbreak. If the gap in number of cases in republican and democrat counties decreases, but the death numbers do not, that is a good sign that medical research has come up with new treatments and there is a real and tangible drop in the mortality rate, a good sign for everyone.
